Leaving LastPass? Keep your vault where only you hold it

In 2022 attackers copied LastPass customers’ encrypted vault backups from the company’s cloud storage. Many people left and asked a simple question: why should my vault sit on a password manager’s server at all? CabinetPass has no server. Your vault stays on your device and, if you want sync, in your own Google Drive.

Coming soon, free on iPhone, iPad, Mac and Android. No account needed.

Why people switch from LastPass

No central vault to steal

There’s no CabinetPass server holding everyone’s vaults. Your encrypted copy sits in your own Drive.

Every device on the free plan

Use iPhone, iPad, Mac and Android together for free.

Argon2id, not just PBKDF2

A memory-hard key derivation function makes offline guessing of a stolen vault far more expensive.

2FA codes in the same app

Live 2FA codes sit next to the login they protect, free.

Where LastPass is ahead today

  • Browser extensions and a Windows app.
  • Business features: admin console, shared folders, single sign-on.

How to move from LastPass

  1. 1

In LastPass, open Account options › Advanced › Export and save the CSV.

  2. 2

In CabinetPass, open Settings › Import from Another App and pick the file. The app shows the steps for each manager and skips duplicates.

  3. 3

Check your items, then delete the CSV file: it isn’t encrypted.

Questions

Should I change my passwords after leaving LastPass?

If your vault was in LastPass during the 2022 incident, change the passwords of your important accounts (email, banking, crypto) and anything weak or reused. CabinetPass’s Security view lists weak, reused and old passwords, and can check them against known breaches.

Is CabinetPass free?

Yes. The free plan has unlimited passwords, cards and notes, 2 GB of encrypted files, 2FA codes, AutoFill, widgets and Google Drive sync, with no trial and no time limit. Pro adds unlimited file storage for $49.99 once or $3.99 a month.

Can Google read my vault if I turn on sync?

No. The vault is encrypted on your device before upload. Google stores an encrypted file in a hidden app folder and never has the key.

What if I forget my master password?

Nobody can recover it, including us. That’s what keeps the vault private. Use a passphrase of five or more random words and keep a written copy somewhere safe.
