Why people switch from 1Password
Pay once
Pro Lifetime costs $49.99, about one year of 1Password Individual, and it never renews.
No account, no company cloud
Your encrypted vault lives on your device and, if you want sync, in a hidden folder of your own Google Drive.
A real free plan
Unlimited items, 2 GB of encrypted files, 2FA codes and sync for $0.
Argon2id by default
Your master password goes through memory-hard Argon2id (64 MiB), which makes GPU guessing far slower.
Where 1Password is ahead today
- Apps for Windows and Linux, and browser extensions. CabinetPass has neither yet; it offers a read-only web viewer.
- Passkeys, shared family and team vaults, and Mac AutoFill.
- Many years of public third-party audits and a bug bounty. CabinetPass is new: it has had a review by a Certified Ethical Hacker, and a professional audit is planned.
How to move from 1Password
- 1
In 1Password, open the desktop app and choose File › Export › your account, then pick CSV.
- 2
In CabinetPass, open Settings › Import from Another App and pick the file. The app shows the steps for each manager and skips duplicates.
- 3
Check your items, then delete the CSV file: it isn’t encrypted.
Questions
Is CabinetPass as secure as 1Password?
Both encrypt everything on your device with AES-256-GCM, and neither company can read your vault. 1Password adds a Secret Key to your master password; CabinetPass uses Argon2id, a memory-hard key derivation function, and never sends your data to its own servers because it has none. 1Password has a longer track record of public audits.
Is CabinetPass free?
Yes. The free plan has unlimited passwords, cards and notes, 2 GB of encrypted files, 2FA codes, AutoFill, widgets and Google Drive sync, with no trial and no time limit. Pro adds unlimited file storage for $49.99 once or $3.99 a month.
Can Google read my vault if I turn on sync?
No. The vault is encrypted on your device before upload. Google stores an encrypted file in a hidden app folder and never has the key.
What if I forget my master password?
Nobody can recover it, including us. That’s what keeps the vault private. Use a passphrase of five or more random words and keep a written copy somewhere safe.
